OTS Progress Phase 1 & 2 (July 2000 to September 2006)

Phase 1 of the project started in July 2000 and was completed by September 2003. During this time a total of 1508 accidents were investigated by both teams.

Phase 2 of the project started in September 2003 and was completed by September 2006. During this time a total of 1516 accidents were investigated by both teams.

Table 1 shows the injury distributions for the 3,024 sampled cases investigated by the two teams during Phase 1and Phase 2.

*Injury Severity shown in Table 1 and Table 2 (below) is the OTS estimate of severity to be shown in UK national statistics (STATS19). Please note that this estimate may occasionally differ from national statistics which are updated by the police in the days following the accident. The VSRC are currently exploring a mechanism to link OTS data with the national records for accident injury severity.
